There are individual differences in how our skin ages, but the process begins before 30 years of age – so it’s a good idea to start anti-aging care early on. The first signs of aging tend to be a lack of moisture in the skin and thin lines on the forehead and around the eyes and mouth. The skin may also begin losing its elasticity. Premature skin aging can be caused by, for example, UV radiation, drastic weight loss, an unhealthy lifestyle or neglecting skin care.
Natural cosmetics aim to moisturize, nourish and protect the skin using softening and renewing vegetable oils and powerful plant extracts, which make the changes caused by aging less obvious. The genuine, nutrient-rich raw materials found in natural cosmetics strengthen the skin’s own protection and balance its good microbes, which can help delay the aging of your skin.
When caring for aging skin, the most important thing is to identify which skin type you have so you can choose the right products. A good basic rule is that as you get older, the products you use should be more renewing and moisturizing. Natural cosmetics products that are intended for aging skin moisturize and nourish the skin efficiently. They also prevent and repair the effects of free radicals and activate your microcirculation and collagen production. Modern natural cosmetics include highly effective, drop-type serums for aging skin, which we recommend for year-round use in combination with your other skincare products.
Products for mature and aging skin
Eye gels and creams are often considered the most important product for aging skin. It’s a good idea to start using an eye cream as an anti-age measure. For younger people, there are light eye gels that protect the thin skin around one’s eyes. As years go by, it’s a good idea to turn to creamier, more nourishing products.
One of Jolie’s bestsellers is the Patyka Youthful Lift Eye Cream, a highly effective and moisturizing product. Amala Rejuvenating Eye Cream and Neal's Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense Anti-Age Eye Cream are also very popular. If the skin around your eyes needs an instant lift, you can try the Supermood Egoboost Eyes Wide Open Serum under your moisturizer to immediately brighten your eyes. The serum is meant to be used in the mornings, under your eye cream, and it should be applied using upward and outward motions. This product is mostly intended to create an instant lift effect, so we also recommend using a moisturizing cream product. For especially dry skin around the eyes, there are oils that are particularly good when used at night and in winter months. These oils are meant for the eye area and help nourish, soften and moisturize the skin even more powerfully. Excellent products for this purpose include the UMA Absolute Anti-Aging Eye Oil or the Josh Rosebrook Oculus Formula Eye Area Treatment.
The basic products for aging skin should be chosen based on skin type. One product that suits all skin types is the Patyka Plumping Serum, which includes hyaluronic acid across a range of molecular weights. The Mel Millis Phytonutri Qi products are very innovative, and our team’s favourite is the Mel Millis Phytonutri Qi Sea Plant Jelly Serum, due to its clearly noticeable effects. In Fiore Complexe de Fleur Cellular Renewal Serum and In Fiore Crème de Fleur Complexe Rejuvené Treatment Cream form another super high-quality duo. The serum is a very effective anti-aging serum, which genuinely and thoroughly improves skin condition. This royal combo is completed by the Cream, which is packed full of precious plant extracts.
Other extremely important product ranges for mature skin include the Ila Spa Gold Cellular Age-Restore line, the Amala Rejuvenating products, the Uma Oils Anti-Aging products and Madara Time Miracle, which is a more affordable option. English Neal’s Yard Remedies also offers powerful product lines for mature skin: Frankincense Intense and Frankincense Intense Lift, the latter of which is perfect for skin that shows clear signs of aging.
It is not a good idea to wash aging skin with overly drying or strong products. We recommend oil cleansing as a primary cleansing method: one of our all-time favourites is the lovely Patyka Remarkable Cleansing Oil. If you have large pores, you can combine Patyka’s oil with a foam cleanser that helps keep the pores clean and brightens the skin. The foam should not, however, be used by itself – only only use it as a two-step cleansing process with the oil. In Fiore also has a superb, highly moisturizing two-step cleansing system.
Other skincare tips for mature and aging skin
Regardless of skin type, it is extremely important to ensure that aging skin is well moisturized all year round. Dry skin always looks more wrinkled. In addition to smoothing products, it is worth investing in effective moisturizers. Using essence-type super moisturizing toners, such as the Patyka Essential Lifting Lotion or Whamisa Toner Deep Rich, is also a good idea.
Moisturizing masks are quite helpful as well: the Amala Hydrating Yogurt Mask, NUORI Supreme Moisture Mask or Patyka Intensive Moisturising Mask are all well suited for mature skin. Anti-aging skin care based on natural cosmetics aims at long-term effects, but for example before a party you could use a sheet mask for quick impact. We especially like Whamisa’s Kelp Mask, which immediately makes the skin appear smoother and promises that the effect will last for 72 hours.
We also recommend regular cosmetologist visits to keep mature skin in a good condition; approximately once in six weeks would be good. The treatments should include toning and firming products. Any massage or treatment techniques used should also be designed to increase skin elasticity.
